Family Business NetworkWhy a program for family business?
The mission of the University of Southern California Family Business Network is to act as a resource for families and their businesses, providing a sophisticated forum for information about management, growth, continuity and strategy.
Family businesses are unique… Successful companies, whether public or private, compete and grow by learning and adapting the best ideas, knowledge, and information for business management. For family-owned companies, the challenges of leading growing companies can be particularly complex. Issues of relationships, history and emotions compound the normal business problems of ownership, governance, strategy and succession. Family businesses benefit from specialized resources… One of the great strengths of USC’s Marshall School of Business is our ability to provide continuing educational resources to help our alumni and friends meet the challenges of leading growing companies. When companies are family-owned and managed, those challenges can be particularly difficult. The Family Business Network provides a wide range or resources especially focused on these unique issues. The program brings owners and managers of mid-sized family companies together in interactive forums to address common issues and successfully work through transitions, develop strategic vision and enact strategic plans for the business and for the family –- as well as to access the best cutting-edge ideas and knowledge about business success in today’s competitive, constantly changing economies. The Family Business Network is member-needs driven… The Network designs discussions on topics of meaningful and timely interest to members, provides top-quality speakers and reference materials, refers expert resources in response to members’ specific needs, and creates access to the combined resources of USC and leading professional services providers to family and closely-held companies, including a broad range of available business research and literature. The Network helps family companies be the best they can be… The Family Business Network makes connections and fosters relationships among members. It guides in sharing stories and synthesizing lessons. It helps younger generations learn to lead and older generations learn to let go. It teaches younger generations to develop the attitudes and skills for effective personal growth and family balance as well as business management. It encourages older generations to develop satisfying next careers -– not be retiring but by renewing themselves. It is dedicated to the success of it members. Meet and talk with other family business members... Four seminars are held the first or second Tuesday morning of each month from October through April. The meetings include a continental breakfast, renown speakers on various relevant topics, breakout group discussions amongst members, and interactive exercises. Additional events may be scheduled during the year when the opportunity arises. For our members, special peer group sessions will be held on alternating months from November through May. These groups allow for additional sharing of information, issues and best practices for family businesses and will be moderated by a trained facilitator. | top of page | Please contact us for additonal information: Tel: 213-740-8990 |
