In an era shaped by scandals such as Enron and Worldcom, and the realities of Sarbanes-Oxley, the role of the corporate director has changed dramatically. One of the leading advocates for positive change is Stanley P. Gold.
Mr. Gold is an active leader in reforming corporate governance. He resigned from the Disney board of Directors in December of 2003, after 15 years of service. A highly respected commentator on the role of corporate directors, Mr. Gold has proposed a number of corporate governance reforms. These include proficiency tests, continuing education, and individual elections for directors. He believes shareholders should be able to call extraordinary meetings, and to talk to directors without senior management being present.
Stanley Gold is the President and CEO of Shamrock Holdings, Inc. Prior to joining Shamrock, Mr. Gold was a partner in the law firm of Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown. He also served as chairman and CEO of several companies. A native of Los Angeles, he is a graduate of UCLA and of USC Law School, and did postgraduate work at Cambridge. He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of USC.
